  • Typically occurs after blunt trauma
  • Non-traumatic causes (see attached article for one of the first case reports of rupture secondary to portal vein thrombosis):
    • Liquid tumors
    • Infection (EBV, CMV, HIV)
    • Pancreatitis
    • Amyloidosis
    • Mechanical (pregnancy, congestion from portal hypertension)
