Somatoform, Conversion, Factitous Disorder - Definitions

Somatoform Disorder: patients do not intentionally, voluntarily, or consciously produce their symptoms. On the other hand, patients with malingering or factitious disorder do intentionally produce their symptoms.

Conversion Disorder: Type of Somatoform disorder. Symptoms or deficits of voluntary motor or sensory function that suggest a neurologic or general medical condition and are associated with psychologic factors.

Factitous Disorder: faking illness for the purpose of gaining the sick role. No financial gain to patient, unlike malingering.
